THE FORGOTTEN WORLD OF VAUDEVILLE

Wibbell are currently putting together a nostalgic look at the bizarre and exciting world of the freak shows, jugglers, magicians and vaudevilles of the late 19th century.

100 years ago, in the days before cinema, vaudeville was a major source of entertainment.
The eager public would flock to the music halls and show rooms of the 19th Century to be entertained by acrobats, magicians, clowns, slapstick, jugglers and dancers - plus many acts that although common at the time are by todays standard just downright weird!

Contortionists, body builders, animal acts, gun and knife acts, Lassooists and many spectacles that are either lost or considered too dangerous for our modern day.

Sadly, as the cinema took over, the vaudeville shows and circuses began to dissapear. Yet ironically enough, many of these 19th Century acts were indeed caught on camera for those very same early motion-picture audiences.
Wibbell are proud to be able to assemble a collection of some of these ancient films of the best acts of over 100 years ago.

Be amazed by the lost arts of vaudeville!
